Model Home Showcase
The Model Home Showcase Nights showcased several urban best management practices (BMPs) that several homeowners in the Cooks Creek and Blacks Run watersheds had installed through the grant.
Tree Plantings behind Public Works and Public Utilities
The area behind Harrisonburg Public Utilities and Public Works contains approximately 1,500 linear feet of Blacks Run riparian area. Most of the area that was planted with trees is approximately 45 feet from the wetted edge of the stream on both sides.
Raingarden at Purcell Park
A raingarden was created to infiltrate the runoff from an 8000 square foot parking lot in Purcell Park.
Riparian Plantings at Eastern Mennonite University
A long spillway for stormwater overflow was converted into a riparian zone by staff at Eastern Mennonite University and student volunteers.
Riparian Plantings at Parks & Recreation Department Maintenance Facility
The Potomac Conservancy donated over 100 seedling trees to be planted in the City's Parks and Recreation Maintenance property on Chicago Avenue. Students from Mr. John Hoover's Biology class at Eastern Mennonite High School planted the trees along stormwater ditches on the property.
Raingarden at Spotswood Elementary School
A raingarden was created at the base of a large parking lot on Spotswood Elementary School grounds to filter stormwater run-off. The students learned about native plants and watershed concepts in addition to helping with the planting.
