The street division maintains over 300 lane miles and hundreds of acres of city right-of-way related to snow and ice removal, storm drainage, sidewalks, traffic lights and signs, mowing, paving schedule, asphalt patching, street sweeping, leaf collection and street light requests.

The mission of the street division is to ensure a safe, clean and clear passageway for all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.  This is accomplished by maintaining a comprehensive maintenance and construction program.

The vision of the street division is to function in a professional manner in servicing the needs of its citizens.

The street division goals are:

  • Maintain the integrity of the city's streets through a consistent repair program.
  • Repair city sidewalks and curb/gutter to ensure safe passage for pedestrians.
  • Inspect and clean drainage structures and pipes for effective run-off control.
  • Monitor a guardrail safety program to ensure safe vehicular travel.
  • Provide a comprehensive mowing program to enhance the city's appearance.
  • Brush and tree maintenance to guarantee adequate vehicular sight distance.
  • Daily maintenance of signs and signals in association with an annual street painting program to ensure safe travel and traffic control.
  • Assist the citizenry with annual fall clean-up with an effective leaf collection program.
  • Upgrade city streets with an annual resurfacing program.
  • Provide assistance to other departments, on an as needed basis, in meeting their public service obligations.
  • To respond to snow and ice removal activities and other emergencies as they arise to lessen the public's hardship during these times of distress.
